The project is considered one of the most complex engineering projects in the country. It is planned to build 50 bridges and 29 tunnels with a total length of approximately 120 kilometers.

Thus, approximately 40 percent of the entire railway will be bridges and tunnels.

One of the main topics of the meeting was compensation issues and land allocation for residents whose homes are located on the territory of the future railway. Following the meeting, instructions were given to the responsible agencies.

Erlist Akunbekov also visited the Jalal-Abad tunnel construction site and reviewed the progress of the work. He stated that the new railway will become an important transport corridor connecting the countries of the East and West.

The total length of the railway in Kyrgyzstan will be over 304 kilometers. The project cost is estimated at $4.7 billion.

The official launch of construction of China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway took place on December 27, 2024, with the participation of President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
