According to the head of state, the country’s land resources are limited, and the population continues to grow rapidly.

«Everyone needs to understand this. There is less and less land. Today, the population of Kyrgyzstan has already reached seven and a half million people. In ten years there will be more than ten million of us. If we continue to distribute agricultural land for the construction of private houses, we will gradually be left without arable land,» the president said.

He noted that the state is changing its approach to housing policy. If previously the main emphasis was on the construction of mortgage-backed apartment buildings in Bishkek, Osh and regional centers, now such projects will begin to be implemented in regional centers, and then in large villages.

«Before this, we massively built mortgage houses in Bishkek, Osh and regional centers. Now we are gradually moving to regional centers, and then to villages. Instead of endlessly expanding settlements at the expense of farmland, we will build five- and nine-story buildings,» Sadyr Japarov said.

As an example, he cited the construction of multi-storey buildings in Zardaly, Alay and Kuldzha.

«Many people say that before they could not even imagine that nine-story buildings would be built in such settlements. But times are changing, and we must keep up with them,» the president noted.

The head of state emphasized that the preservation of agricultural land is a matter of food security for the country.

«We should think not only about today, but also about future generations. We will leave, and they will stay to live here. If we continue to reduce arable land, we may one day face food shortages. Already today, for some crops, for example, wheat, we cannot fully provide ourselves with our own production and are forced to purchase grain in Kazakhstan and Russia,» he said.

The President added that in many developed countries, including Germany, even in rural areas people live in apartment buildings, while maintaining farmland.

«We must also come to such a development model. The land needs to be protected. Therefore, the approach to allocating plots for housing construction will change,» Sadyr Japarov concluded.
