Under the Labor Code, August 31, Independence Day of Kyrgyzstan, is a non-working public holiday.

Employees may be required to work on this day only with their written consent and the approval of the organization’s employee representative body.

Exceptions apply to work that cannot be suspended, including continuous production processes, services essential to the public, as well as urgent repair, loading and unloading operations.

Work performed on August 31 must be compensated by agreement between the parties through one of the following options: another day off, adding the day to annual leave, or monetary compensation of at least double the regular rate of pay.

In addition, under Cabinet Resolution No. 479 of July 10, 2026, September 1 has been declared a day off for employees of budget-funded organizations located in Bishkek, with their average daily wages retained.

For privately owned organizations, the provision of September 1 as a day off is advisory in nature.
