According to the organizers, the reason was an official refusal by the state film center Kyrgyztasmasy to issue the film a state registration certificate. The decision was based on a protocol adopted by the Department of Cinematography’s commission on June 6, 2026, following an expert review of the film.
«Kurak film is as a social drama based on real events. The plot weaves together several interconnected stories about the lack of rights and vulnerability of women in a modern patriarchal society. The filmmakers address sensitive issues including domestic violence, systemic discrimination against women, the influence of radical ideologies, and shortcomings in the judicial system in protecting victims of crimes,»
the event’s directorate notes.
The film has previously received international recognition and was selected for several prestigious film festivals, winning multiple awards.
At the 30th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea, the film received the top prize in the Jiseok Award program as well as the Bangladesh July Memorial Award. At the 24th Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh, it won the Grand Prix for Best Film. At the 32nd Vesoul International Festival of Asian Cinema in France, the film earned three awards: the Grand Prix of the international jury, the critics’ award, and the youth jury prize.
