After the completion of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border delimitation in 2025, the territory where the house was located became part of Kyrgyzstan. Under existing agreements, housing compensation in such cases should be provided by the Tajik side. However, the family members had already become citizens of Kyrgyzstan and were unable to receive compensation housing.

Left without a home, the couple and their two children moved to Bishkek and rented an apartment. The head of the family has a second-degree disability, and one of the children requires medical treatment. To support the family, Ykhyval Abduvalieva worked collecting cardboard boxes at Dordoi market. After their story received wide media attention, the family appealed to President Sadyr Japarov.

The regional administration also reported that eight more families in Leilek district are in a similar situation.

They will also be provided with housing as part of the distribution of houses transferred to Kyrgyzstan from Tajikistan following the territorial exchange.

As a result of the border delimitation process, 259 residential houses in Batken region were transferred to Tajikistan, while 214 houses in Sughd region became part of Kyrgyzstan. For citizens whose homes ended up on the territory of Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz government has already built 257 new houses in the villages of Zhany-Dostuk in Batken district, as well as in Razzakov and Maksat in Leilek district. The houses have already been handed over to their owners.
