Upon completion of their training, the volunteer interns will contribute to the development of English language instruction in secondary schools and higher education institutions across the country.

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Innovation invited the American educators to support their shared goals of ensuring the prosperity and economic independence of the citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Over the next 11 weeks, the volunteer interns will undergo comprehensive training, including Kyrgyz language and culture, Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), and co-teaching techniques.

The goal of the training is to equip future volunteers with the necessary professional skills and cultural understanding to effectively work in the Kyrgyzstan’s education system. Interns who successfully complete the program will be sworn in as Peace Corps volunteers in August and begin a two-year service. Volunteers will work alongside local English teachers, strengthening their professional capacity and improving the language skills of students in Chui, Naryn, Issyk-Kul, Talas, Osh, and Jalal-Abad regions.

Since 1993, the Peace Corps has deployed nearly 1,400 volunteers to the Kyrgyz Republic to support locally identified priority projects in all regions of the country. Volunteers work at the invitation of the Kyrgyz Republic in areas identified by the government.

The goal of the Peace Corps is to strengthen mutual understanding and develop the capacity of local communities through collaborative action. Peace Corps volunteers live and work alongside local residents, building relationships, sharing knowledge and cultural experiences, and contributing to the development of education throughout the country.
