As Deputy Chairman of the National Bank Azat Kozubekov announced at the first meeting of the organizing committee for the anniversary events, the mintage will be limited to 1,000 pieces.

The collectible coin will be made of pure gold and will have a denomination of 100 soms.

Its value will be determined based on the price of gold and its weight at the time of issue.

The National Bank has previously issued commemorative coins dedicated to the writer. In 2018, a collectible coin, «Chingiz Aitmatov’s 90th Anniversary,» was issued with a denomination of 20 soms and a mintage of 5,000 pieces. The coin was made of copper-nickel alloy.

In addition, a separate series was dedicated to his work, including coins «Aitmatov,» «Jamila,» «First Teacher,» «Mother’s Field,» «Farewell, Gulsary!» and «White Steamship.» The coins were made of 925 sterling silver and had a denomination of 10 soms.

Last year, President Sadyr Japarov signed a decree on holding events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the writer’s birth. According to the decree, 2028 has been declared the Year of Chingiz Aitmatov.
