According to the head of state, after the clarification of the state border, Kyrgyzstan’s territory increased by 15,572 hectares and now totals 20,009,572 hectares. Of this area, 94.4 percent is mountainous territory. Japarov noted that the country’s total agricultural land area is 6,732 million hectares, while 18,698 million hectares of land are under state and municipal ownership.
The president emphasized that land plots provided for investment projects were intended for the construction of factories, industrial facilities, logistics centers, energy projects, and tourism sites.
«It was expected that these projects would attract hundreds of millions, and in some cases billions, of dollars in investment and create thousands of jobs,» he said.
However, according to Japarov, many tenants who received land for 49 years failed to begin construction. In some cases, the plots were resold or used for purposes other than those intended. The president said legislation needs to be reviewed: investors must fulfill their commitments, and if they fail to do so, agreements should be terminated and the land returned to the state.
We are not selling our land. But without attracting investment, it is impossible to ensure the development of the state. Sadyr Japarov
We are not selling our land. But without attracting investment, it is impossible to ensure the development of the state.
He also stated that not a single centimeter of Kyrgyzstan’s territory will be transferred to another country, and that every meter of land must benefit the nation.
«Kyrgyzstan needs not artificial disputes, but new factories, jobs, investments, and a strong economy,» the president said.
