The index measures countries’ progress toward achieving all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, with a score of 100 indicating full achievement.
Kyrgyzstan ranked ahead of Russia (51st), Azerbaijan (52nd), Uzbekistan (65th), Kazakhstan (67th), and Tajikistan (98th). It was placed behind China (49th) and Armenia (47th).
The report assesses countries across a broad range of indicators, including poverty, food security, health, education, gender equality, access to water and electricity, economic growth, environmental sustainability, and the quality of public institutions.
Poverty is measured by the share of the population living on less than $3 and $4.20 per day.
The health indicators include maternal and child mortality, life expectancy, tuberculosis and HIV incidence, mortality from non-communicable diseases, access to healthcare, and vaccination coverage.
Education is evaluated based on preschool enrollment, primary school participation, secondary school completion, and literacy rates.
The gender equality component examines women’s participation in the labor force, years of schooling for women and men, access to modern family planning methods, and the share of women in parliament.
Environmental indicators include carbon dioxide emissions, air pollution, municipal and electronic waste management, the condition of terrestrial ecosystems, deforestation, and the protection of biodiversity-rich areas.
The quality of institutions is assessed using indicators such as crime and corruption levels, press freedom, access to justice, protection of children’s rights, birth registration, and the efficiency of administrative procedures.
The index also takes into account access to safe drinking water, sanitation, electricity, clean fuels, the internet, banking services, and public transport.
According to the report, Kyrgyzstan’s population is estimated at 7.24 million. The country’s GDP at purchasing power parity amounted to $57.86 billion in 2024, or approximately $8,000 per capita.
Kyrgyzstan submitted two Voluntary National Reviews on the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals between 2016 and 2025.
The Sustainable Development Report is prepared by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) in partnership with Dublin University Press. It is an independent global assessment that complements official UN indicators and national government reports.
