According to the National Statistical Committee, the total volume of processing in the country for January-May 2026 reached 45,587,872.5 billion soms.
Bishkek made the largest contribution, with enterprises producing goods worth 21,181,845.5 billion soms, a 25.3 percent increase.
Chui region produced goods for 18,203,027.6 billion soms, with production increasing by 31.3 percent. Together, the two regions accounted for more than 86 percent of all national food processing.
Against this backdrop, Osh region was the worst performer, recording a 0.6 percent decline from last year’s level—a total of 384,555.5 million soms.
Naryn region demonstrated abnormal growth in the beverage sector, where production jumped 64.5 times in May.
Industry breakdown and sugar collapse
A detailed analysis of economic activities indicates a steady rise in the beverage production sector, which grew by 23.2 percent and generated 14,949,668.5 billion soms.
The largest contribution here was provided by the production of mineral waters and soft drinks, exceeding 11,590,209.7 billion soms, an increase of 27.9 percent.
Food products production increased by 11.3 percent, reaching 30,623,950.3 billion soms.
Fish processing nearly doubled to 128,689.9 million soms.
However, the sector suffered a massive decline: domestic sugar production virtually ceased, falling to a mere 0.5 thousand soms, down from 1,803,677.6 billion soms the year before.
The decline was also registered in pasta production (down 16.7 percent) and winemaking (down 34.3 percent).
