The project’s results were announced at a special event attended by Bishkek Mayor Aibek Dzhunushaliev, representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Swiss government.

According to the mayor, Bishkek faced serious water supply problems in 2022–2023, but the measures implemented have significantly improved the system’s reliability and reduced the risk of drinking water shortages.

The total investment amounted to €16 million, half of which was provided as a loan and another €8 million as a grant.

As part of the project, 35 new wells were commissioned, a 3.2-kilometer main water pipeline and an 11-kilometer sewer collector were built. Modern laboratory equipment was purchased to monitor the quality of drinking and wastewater.

In addition, savings generated during implementation allowed authorities to allocate extra €3.6 million for the development of engineering infrastructure in the southern part of the capital. There, 2.6 kilometers of water supply networks and nearly 5 kilometers of sewage networks were built.

The municipal enterprise Bishkekvodokanal also received 108 units of equipment and four specialized vehicles.

City officials noted that the completed project creates a foundation for the further development of water infrastructure in the growing capital and for improving the quality of public utility services for residents.
