He noted that cyber fraud has become one of the most widespread types of crime. Today, offenders can commit illegal acts remotely using phones and the internet, while being located in another city or even outside the country.
Among the most common fraud schemes, the deputy minister highlighted phishing — the creation of fake websites and links that closely resemble those of banks, government institutions, or delivery services.
Fraudsters also frequently call citizens posing as bank employees, government officials, police officers, or security services. They claim that a loan is allegedly being issued in the victim’s name and urge them to urgently transfer money to a so-called «safe account.» Another common scheme involves calls requesting SIM card renewal.
Criminals also often use messaging apps. They impersonate acquaintances, asking for urgent financial help or sending messages requesting votes for a child in a competition, accompanied by malicious links.
Online scam stores are also widespread. Buyers are offered goods at low prices, make advance payments, after which the seller disappears. Ahead of the tourist season, citizens are also being warned to be cautious when booking houses or cottages online.
Another frequent scheme involves fake investment offers in cryptocurrency or investment projects promising quick and high returns.
According to Erkebek Ashirkhodzhaev, fraudsters often reveal themselves through typical signs: they pressure victims into making quick decisions, do not give time for consideration, demand secrecy, ask for money transfers, PIN codes, or SMS verification codes, or prompt users to follow suspicious links. They also promise easy earnings and high profits with no risk.
«Cyber fraudsters constantly change their schemes, so it is essential to remain vigilant and follow basic digital security rules,» the official said.
