Imports: Decline in cattle purchases
In the first three months of this year, 2,902 head of cattle worth $802,500 were imported into the country. Russia supplied the entire volume.
The situation with poultry also changed: 392,455 heads worth $320,400 were imported into the country. The main suppliers were:
Uzbekistan: 120,500 heads worth $80,100.
The sharp decline in cattle imports is due to both export restrictions (quotas) in Kyrgyzstan and the overall epizootic situation in the region, which is forcing stricter veterinary controls.
Uzbekistan remains Kyrgyzstan’s main partner in livestock purchases. In the first quarter of 2026, at least 6,588 head of cattle were shipped there, valued at $1.5 million. This volume represented 63.2 percent of the figure for the same period in 2025.
In addition, isolated export deliveries were recorded to other countries:
Kuwait: 700 heads of other live animals valued at $1,400.
From January to March of this year, the country’s total foreign trade turnover reached $3,356.2 billion. The trade structure remains deficit-ridden: while exports fell to $482.9 million, imports reached $2,873.3 billion, creating a negative balance of $2,390 billion.
