State Financial Supervision Service Chairman Kairat Mamatov told 24.kg news agency that licensing and regulation of the virtual asset sector are now handled by the National Agency for Virtual Assets and Blockchain Technologies (NAVA) under the President of Kyrgyzstan.
At the same time, market supervision remains under the State Financial Supervision Service, which conducts inspections of companies and revokes licenses when they fail to meet regulatory requirements.
«Recently, one cryptocurrency exchange had its license revoked. The company failed to meet its obligations and did not begin operations within a year of obtaining the license. Similarly, a license is revoked if a company fails to meet capital requirements. By the way, as of July 1 this year, cryptocurrency exchanges must have capital of at least $300 million. If companies fail to meet this requirement, we will begin revoking their licenses,» Mamatov said.
He added that Kyrgyzstan’s virtual asset market is developing rapidly and that the country currently ranks 19th globally in the Cryptocurrency Adoption Index.
