The project aims to modernize one of Kazakhstan’s busiest transport corridors, which currently handles more than 70,000 vehicles daily.

Following the reconstruction, the road’s capacity for traffic entering and leaving Almaty is expected to increase, road safety will improve, and travel time will be reduced.

The existing four-lane road is reportedly unable to cope with the growing traffic volume. Heavy traffic has led to regular congestion, lower average vehicle speeds, and an increased risk of road accidents.

The project includes expanding the highway from four to eight lanes. It also includes the construction of two «horseshoe»-type interchanges, nine elevated pedestrian crossings, sidewalks along the entire section, an outdoor lighting system, and new road pavement.

The works are expected to be fully completed and the upgraded road opened to traffic by December 2027.
