He said that Orto-Alysh water intake system supplies more than 40 percent of the city’s population with clean drinking water.

Within the framework of «Rehabilitation of Water Supply and Sanitation Systems in Bishkek» project, implemented with support from the Government of Switzerland and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, 35 new wells were drilled and commissioned at the Orto-Alysh intake. A 3.2-kilometer main water pipeline was built, and an 11-kilometer sewage collector was completed. Modern laboratory equipment was also installed to improve water quality monitoring.

However, Alibek Kanymet uulu noted that seasonal water consumption remains a challenge, increasing by more than 25 percent in summer compared to winter. This is mainly due to residents watering private plots. «We are conducting an awareness campaign explaining that watering trees with drinking water during daytime hours is prohibited. Our inspectors and controllers are holding conversations with residents,» he said.
