According to him, the Leninsky District Court of Bishkek is expected to consider a preventive measure against the activist today at 11 a.m. It has not yet been disclosed under which article Mavlyan Askarbekov was detained. The SCNS has also not issued any official comments.

Shortly before his detention, Mavlyan Askarbekov published a post claiming that attempts were being made to portray him as an «enemy of the people.» The activist said he had previously addressed the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers regarding the participation of Chinese citizens in Kyrgyzstan’s small and medium-sized businesses and had proposed holding a live public debate on the issue.

According to Askarbekov, three SCNS officers visited his home on Sunday, spoke with him, and secretly recorded video footage. He claims the recordings were later edited and published in an attempt to discredit him.
