Osh resident Nargiz Kochkarova, who had recently undergone a liver transplant, died in the fire. Her 23-year-old son, who was the liver donor, and the patient’s mother also died. The family was in India for treatment.
Nargiz Kochkarova had two minor children.
The major fire broke out at the Florist Inn in New Delhi on June 3. Twenty-one people died, including three Kyrgyzstanis. According to preliminary information, most of the hotel’s foreign guests arrived in the Indian capital for treatment at local medical facilities.
The Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in India is processing the necessary documents and arranging the return of the bodies of the deceased to their homeland. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
According to specialists, approximately 400 cases of liver cirrhosis are registered in the Kyrgyz Republic annually. Approximately 100 patients require liver transplants each year. Despite the country’s gradually developing a system for performing such surgeries, many citizens are still forced to seek treatment abroad, including in India.
